What Is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing is a system of marketing whereby a vendor has something to sell, they decide to sell it online, and are looking for ways to promote their product. They enlist the help of “affiliates” to do the selling for them - and in return, the affiliates earn a percentage of the profits.

There are many affiliate programs online, a couple of the most well known are Clickbank and Commission Junction. Clickbank sells information products mainly in the form of ebooks, while Commission Junction sells just about everything. A quick search of affiliate marketing programs will turn up hundreds of programs to choose from.

Affiliate Marketing Tips

Affiliate marketing is very easy to get into, but not everyone can make a go of it. You will have to do a lot of homework to learn the ropes. Do a search on affiliate marketing guide and you will see the huge range of products and websites that make huge promises of making hundreds of dollars a day. While this is possible, it takes a while, and lots of trial and error to get to this level. This is a profession that you have to be committed to just like anything else if you want to succeed at it. The best tip I can give is to become a sponge. Read everything you can get your hands on, look for forums and see what is working for others. That is about the best way to get successful is to find someone that is successful and copy their methods. Don’t try to reinvent the wheel.

Just remember to not get discouraged. It can take a while to get good at affiliate marketing, Just stick with it and you too can succeed.

Pepperjam Network

Pepperjam Network is an affiliate marketing network, with a bit of a difference. It allows you to mix and match ads from any of the merchant partners. That means you get to choose the ads you want to display per ad (other banners and options are also available) For instance, you can create a fashion widget by selecting various ads from multiple fashion merchants. Likewise, you can create a specific widget with ads from any one merchant.

Make Money With Your Blogs RSS Feed

One of the common forms of monetising your web site or blog is via advertising where you get paid per click. While the most well known form of this is no doubt Adsense there are others available to you if for whatever you can’t or choose not to use Adsense.

Bidvertiser is one such company and they’ve now released a new way you can earn online.

Many affiliate marketers use blogs as a way to promote their chosen products or sites etc.  Each of these blogs no doubt has an rss or atom feed where readers can subscribe to have the latest posts sent to them via email or their chosen feedreader (bloglines, google reader etc)

Bidvertiser is now offering a way to add those CPC ads to your blogs RSS/Atom feeds. By signing up to the Bidvertiser program and logging into your publisher account you now have the option to add ads to your feeds. You simply select which blog you want to use and submit your feed - you’ll be asked to verify it by creating a new post and adding a supplied piece of text (this can be removed as soon as you’ve verified) you’ll then be given several ways to add your Bidvertiser ads to your feed depending on your blog platform.

That’s it - now when people subscribe to or use your rss feed there will be a Bidvertiser ad placed

WidgetBucks

A lot of people are now using WidgetBucks (seems it’s a very popular alternative to google adsense) and until January 15th new accounts will receive a $25 sign up bonus.

There are three ways to make money from WidgetBucks:

1. PPC, or Pay-Per-Click ads. Each time a user from the U.S. or Canada clicks on a WidgetBucks ad widget on your site, you get paid.
2. CPM, or Cost-Per-Thousand Impressions. When a user from outside the U.S. and Canada views one of your pages that contains a CPM ad from one of WidgetBucks’ ad partners, you earn revenue.
3. Referrals. When you refer a new WidgetBucks user, you will receive a 10* percent referral fee based on the commissions earned by the people you refer. You’ll receive this 10 percent for the full 12 months after the new member joins.

* Also starting January 15, we are modifying our referral structure for new accounts from 10 to 5 percent. It’s important to emphasize this only impacts new accounts (Jan. 15 or later) and does NOT impact existing accounts — which will continue to earn the 10 percent referral fee for the full 12 months after the new member joins.

I’ve only just started using this myself so I can’t personally guarantee it to others, though I have heard good things about it (from both US and International Affiliates), but I’d be happy to hear more opinions on it.

Keeping Track Of Where Your Customers And Sales Are Coming From

When it comes to promoting or selling affiliate products or programs you need to be able to keep track of where your sales have come from, how many people have viewed or clicked on your product before a sale was made and to know what ad works and what doesn’t.

Depending on what it is you’re promoting there is a variety of ways you can do this; from the general stat counter on a webpage to free or paid tracking programs, it will also depend on what it is you’re selling or promoting as to how you can track it. Some programs/products do it for you, others you need to create specific links etc.

To the right of the page I’ve just added Track That Ad (there is a free and pro version) which enables you to give your chosen affiliate link a code that it can then keep track of for you. There are other ways to do this and I’ll add some more later, but I wanted to also share this video which is a great guide to tracking ClickBank clicks and sales
